born in 1997 in stockholm, micael de leeuw's work investigates technology, repetition, and processing—a continuous spectrum in constant motion. he is particularly interested in the relationship and interplay between analog and digital working methods, viewing them as a meeting place for simultaneous, overlapping systems. de leeuw sees this interaction as a form of incessant searching and discovery, a grinding way to engage with and become part of the world.
this guiding principle of constant change and its consequences—risk-taking and the acquisition of new skills—underlies the diversity of de leeuw's practices. he consistently strives to reveal a sense of movement through his work. the discontinuities apparent across his various works and approaches reflect what drives him forward, creating a center around process and materiality. de leeuw typically describes this process as embodied until its culmination, a feeling of getting to know something anew until it is taken away.
